Who we are

What we do

  • Research and studies from reputable institutions like The Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL), Harvard, MentalHelp and Afterschool Alliance have shown that children who are academically at-risk, in lower income communities and have "access" to attend after-school programs tend to reap benefits that best model CASEL's definition of Social and Emotional Learning..."SEL is how children and adults learn to understand and manage emotions, set goals, show empathy for others, establish positive relationships, and make responsible decisions."

We are a complete mentoring program promoting chess in an educational way by providing an intellectual, challenging, fun and creative learning environment that teaches, provides and will assist with the development of the following everyday life skills:

Social-Emotional Learning (SEL), responsible decision-making skills, critical thinking, cognitive thinking, enhanced concentration, resilience, anger management, logical processing, optimizing memory, self-endurance, self-discipline, cultural development, good morals & principles, conscience & confidence building, leadership skills, time management, relational credibility, self-sufficiency, self-esteem, self-confidence, social awareness, empathy, integrity, intellectual enrichment, creativity, problem-solving, strategy, planning skills, foresight, exercising both sides of the brain, patience, self-development, and thinking things through thoroughly before making a move.

Our ultimate goal is to strengthen “relational credibility” with students by providing the key to unlock their mind's fullest potential to the highest level of enhanced decision-making and ultimately increasing their ability to F.O.C.U.S. This is an acronym (Fixated Optimum Clear Understanding of Success) and unifying theme we created that reverberates throughout our Chess is Life team down to the very minds and lives of the students we strive to impact daily.
